Summary:
The article deals with the work of a Dutch physicist Simon Stevin. It concentrates on Stevin’s description of the inclined plane experiment and its conclusions. It also discusses Stevin’s contribution to practical extension of decimal numbers computations and his suggestion to use them in a system of weights and measures. Stevin’s original findings on hydrostatic pressure and on the Moon’s influence on sea tides are also included.
