Winter School „Geometry and Physics“ arose inside the Winter School of Abstract Analysis. Geometry and Physics firstly emerged as a subsection of the section of topology in 1981 and since 1985 it became an independent international conference. The name of the schools was adjusted in the early years and stabilized at Geometry and Physics. From 1994 to 2011 the conference was supported by International Erwin Schrödinger Institute for Mathematical Physics in Vienna.
