The article contrasts human perception of temperature with real temperatures occurring in the universe and on this planet. It presents a brief historical overview and a short description of possible approaches to temperature and its measurement and interpretation. It compares the situation in our solar system with the situation in remote universe to illustrate that, compared to most places in the universe, the Earth is a very warm place. The aim of the article is to show that common sense and our own earthly experience may contradict the actual situation, even if it concerns something as well-known and trivial as temperature.
