Summary:
|
The artcile deals with the geometrical methods used by ancient Greek astronomer and mathematician Aristarchos of Samos to determine relative distances of the Earth, the Moon and the Sun. He also attempted to determine the diametres of these bodies by observing total lunar eclipse. His heliocentric theory, which was later revived by Nicolaus Copernicus, is also mentioned. (English) |
